ASSA Annual Meeting

The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis routinely hosts a panel session at the Allied Social Sciences Association Annual Meetings. The most recent session, "Addiction, Public Policy, and Benefit-Cost Analysis", organized by Don Kenkel (Cornell University) and chaired by Alex Rees-Jones (University of Pennsylvania), was held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, and featured four papers:

  • The Opioid Crisis, Health, Healthcare, and Crime: A Review Of Quasi-Experimental Economic Studies
  • Flexibility Through Delay
  • Valuing Withdrawal in Benefit-Cost Analysis; and
  • The Costs of FDA Tobacco Regulations: A Case Study of the Proposed Prohibition of Menthol Cigarettes.

Discussants were Helen Levy (University of Michigan), Alex-Rees Jones (University of Pennsylvania), and Clark Nardinelli (Retired, United States Food and Drug Administration).

Southern Economic Association

W. Kip Viscusi (Vanderbilt University) has organized three SBCA sessions at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Southern Economic Association to be held November 18-20, 2023, at the New Orleans Marriott in New Orleans, LA.
