Call for Board Nominations

SBCA Seeks Nominations for Open Board Positions

The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (SBCA) is seeking nominations for the following open board positions to begin on January 1, 2027:

  • Vice President, who will serve for a term of one year, then automatically succeed to the office of President for one year, then automatically succeed to the office of Past President for one year
  • Assistant Treasurer, who will serve for a period of one year, then automatically succeed to the office of Treasurer for one year, then automatically succeed to the office of Past Treasurer for one year
  • Three Directors, who will serve for three years (from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029)

SBCA's Board is also considering a bylaws amendment, to be voted on this fall, that would shift officer and director terms to align with the annual conference cycle (mid-March to mid-March) rather than the calendar year. If the amendment passes, the terms above would begin in mid-March 2027 instead of January 1, 2027, and run for the same length described (one year for the Vice President and Assistant Treasurer before automatic succession; three years for Directors).

Self-nominations are actively encouraged.

Qualifications

All officers and members of the Board, both voting and ex-officio, must be voting members of SBCA the year prior to and during their terms of office. Nominations of women, minorities, and other groups who are under-represented in the benefit-cost analysis community are especially welcome. In addition, SBCA strives to ensure a balance between practitioners and academics. As the Board's committee structure evolves, SBCA also welcomes nominees with interest in committee leadership roles such as membership recruitment and retention, professional development programming, and international engagement.

Process and Timeline

Nominations must be submitted by September 26, 2026, to be considered by the Nominations & Elections Committee, which will work with the SBCA Executive Committee to build a slate of candidates for the fall election. This slate will be presented to the Board for its consideration.

Submit your nomination(s), including self-nominations, using SBCA's online nomination form. The form will ask for the nominee's name, institutional affiliation, email address, and phone number.

  • All nominations (including self-nominations) should include a brief (250 words or less) biographical statement summarizing the candidate's qualifications
  • Please upload a CV/resume of the nominee.

Elections are anticipated to run from November 2, 2026, through November 15, 2026. All SBCA members in good standing are eligible to vote. Election results are decided by the highest number of votes cast. In the case of a tie, the winner will be determined by real or virtual coin toss performed by the Vice President.
